Deathstroke #1

- My first comic review so it may be rough in places and not be in a style I like but over time as I get used to this it should improve. I believe this is Deathstrokes 3rd series so things don't look good for this one if he's had two cancelled however Deathstroke is in the public eye now via Arrow and to a lesser extent Smallville so maybe he has the love to survive.
I'll write down the story in bullet points so what I say is in chronological order then at the end I'll give overall thoughts on the art, writing, whether it sustained my interest etc.

- First page we get Deathstroke/Slade Wilson's thoughts on things - 'Deathstroke is not who I am. It's my job and I love it.'

- He goes to Russia on a contract hit as he's been sent for a man named 'Possum'. So is Deathstroke more hitman than mercenary now?

- Meets up with a lady named Angelica who he says is a contact of his then we see some kills of Deathstroke's ordered by her.

- We see two guys dead in a hotel room and Angelica explains to Deathstroke that they wanted her to set up a trap for Deathstroke to walk into but she's apparently killed them anyway.

- There's a phone in the room transmitting a frequency only Deathstroke can hear as we see Possum is tied up in the room. This frequency knocks Deathstroke's karma out of kilter and weakens him, Possum then kills Angelica or at least I assume he has unless she is a healer as well.

- Possum goes to kill Deathstroke but ends up with a sword through his mouth, Deathstroke jumps to safety when the hotel is shot by from choppers but on the ground he meets some faceless assassins who he promptly kills though he is wounded and not healing as quickly as he'd like also we see that Possum is alive and well.

- Deathstroke fins an old man who he calls I-Ching but Deathstroke collapses at his feet. It is now 16 days later as Deathstroke awakens as I-Ching says he has brought him back from the dead and that Deathstroke must leave as nowhere is safe for him, also he is now indebted to I-Ching who will collect when the time comes.

- On the final panel of the comic we see Deathstroke who now looks younger and has no eye patch!

- It is violent but I wouldn't say gratuitously as I would expect violence in a Deathstroke comic.
- Angelica seemed to mean something to Deathstroke and yet when she was killed I had no feelings to her passing as she wasn't an established character which lessened her death for me.
- I am interested in the Possum character because he heals ala Deathstroke so I do wonder if Deathstroke will be able to kill him as i'm sure he'll pop up again.
- Deathstroke seemed more like a hired gun than a mercenary.
- Artwork wise I was impressed and one thing I liked was the backgrounds as they were good as well because I wouldn't be surprised if some artists focused more on the main picture on the page and drew the background sloppyish as it is just that background but it was good here.
- I am interested in issue 2 as it seems as though there's a man hunt for Slade, 'Nowhere is safe for him'.
- Also of note is that there are 2 variant editions and I do collect variants one I think is just his mask on the cover and the other is a Monster Variation which I'm not too impressed with, in fact it's one of those rare times where I prefer the original cover, I saw the covers on google though and not in my local comic shop.
